Sri Lanka is appropriately known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean as its rich earth is a source of a variety of semi-precious and precious gemstones, ranging from moonstones and garnets to sapphires and rubies. We at Ging Oya Lodge have a professional background in gem and diamond cutting and we are proud to announce our exciting new initiative which will give our guests the opportunity to take home a rather more personal souvenir than a last minute purchase in a gift shop. We are now offering a short, hands-on workshop on cutting gemstones.

Choose from our wide selection of rough produce and, with the help and guidance of an experienced, English-speaking gem cutter, transform your ‘rock’ into a sparkling gemstone.

What we offer:

- an introduction to the world of gemstones
- a background on cut designs
- a guide to the tools
- personalised assistance with the actual cutting of your choice of stone
- introduction to a goldsmith who will be able to create a piece of jewellery to your
  specifications to incorporate your gem

The complete session will take around 8 hours, spread over two or three days.

During the months of July and August this package is available for 100 Euros.

Your gemstone’s price is not included in this price and starts at 10 Euros, depending on its type and size. Unfortunately we do not offer the possibility to cut diamonds.

The cost for optional gold or silver jewellery is also not included but will be agreed by you and the goldsmith.
